Indy gets cosy with Daily Mail to cut costs (Financial Times)
The Independent newspaper has taken the radical step of moving into the same office building as the Daily Mail, in a drive to cut costs. In an effort to save an estimated £2m to £3m a year, Independent News and Media (UK) will move its reduced staff to the Kensington headquarters of Daily Mail & General Trust and share costs on functions such as information technology and personnel.

Surgeon carries out amputation by SMS (Mail and Guardian)

The climate for newspapers in the UK at the moment is bitingly cold. Last week another torrent of redundancies flowed from all parts of the industry - 50 more jobs to go at the Telegraph, which had only recently completed phase one of a restructuring, 60 jobs to go at the Independent and an office-share scheme with the Daily Mail to further save costs, and Trinity Mirror losing another 78 ...
