German, 2 French researchers share Nobel Prize in medicine (USA Today)
The Nobel Prize in medicine was awarded Monday to French researchers Luc Montagnier and Francoise Barre-Sinoussi for discovering the AIDS virus and to German virologist Harald zur Hausen for identifying viruses that cause cervical cancer.

Nobel Panel Decides Against U.S. HIV Discovery (NPR)
The 2008 Nobel Prize for physiology or medicine went in part to two French researchers for discovering the virus that causes AIDS. The award was not shared by American Robert Gallo, who has also claimed a role in the discovery of HIV. Additionally, a German scientist got the prize for establishing the cause of most cervical cancers.

Respiratory illness in Southeastern kills 1 woman (Anchorage Daily News)
A respiratory illness likely caused by a virus circulating on Prince of Wales Island in Southeast Alaska has killed one person and put another on a ventilator in an Anchorage hospital, the state Division of Public Health said Monday.
