The nation’s oldest Farmer’s Almanac’s winter forecast indicates it may soon be time to install a wood stove or drag the skis out of the garage. Janice Stillman, editor of the Old Farmer’s Almanac, circa 1793, said the forecast for the area that includes Danville is colder with more precipitation than past winters.

Homeowners set to get ready for winter (Worcester Telegram & Gazette)
The time of year has arrived for homeowners to weatherize and winterize. Daylength today is 11 hours and 21 minutes (clouds can make it seem like November). We are losing about three minutes a day. By the end of the month, daylength will be 59 minutes shorter than it is today - 10 hours and 22 minutes.

Man gets prison for thefts from NY state archive (AP via Yahoo! News)
